Greendale Students Vie For Investor Funding in YEA!

By greendalechamber, Mar 16 2016 12:20PM

GREENDALE, WI – Eleven (11) Greendale High School student entrepreneurs representing nine businesses established in YEA! Greendale will pitch their business plans during the program’s Investor Panel Event, Thursday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the library at Greendale High School (GHS), 6801 Southway, Greendale. Based on the appeal and merit of the students’ plans and presentations, representatives from companies like PNC Bank, NONBox Advertising, and DuBois Chemical will determine the amount of funds to allocate to each business presenting. A list of investor panel judges is included below.

The participating investors will also select one business group to advance to the Young Entrepreneurs Academy Saunders Scholars National College Scholarship competition to compete for hundreds of thousands of dollars in college scholarships, a fasttrack application pass to apply to be on ABC’s Shark Tank, and an allexpenses paid trip to attend America’s Small Business Summit in Washington, DC courtesy of the United States Chamber of Commerce.

As the capstone of the YEA! Program, the Investor Panel is the student’s time to participate in YEA!’s signature Shark Tanklike event. Each student business will have five minutes to prove their concept to a panel of investors, who then have the opportunity to ask the students a total of three questions. Once all of the students have presented, the Investors deliberate and determine, based on the merit of their idea and their presentation, the total funding for each student business. During this deliberation, the investors will also select the Saunders SemiFinalist, the student or group advancing to compete at YEA!’s Saunders Scholars Regional Competition, and possibly advance to the Saunders Scholars Finals in June.

YEA! is a cutting edge program that takes students ages 11 to 18 through the process of starting and launching a real business or social movement over the course of an academic year . By the end of the class, students own and operate fully formed and functioning businesses, which may be carried on after completion of the program.
